Obama And McCain Square Off On Economy
(CNN) John McCain and Barack Obama traded jabs while speaking to their audiences on the economy today. McCain’s line is that Barack Obama will raise your taxes and make matters worse. Obama’s line is that McCain’s continuation of the Bush tax cuts (something McCain was against at first) would be just part of the “third term”. McCain told his listeners, “The choice in this election is stark and simple. Sen. Obama will raise your taxes. I won’t. I will cut them where I can.” This, of course, is only true if his entire audience makes well above $112,000 a year ($250,000 for Joint filers). So apparently he was talking to a bunch of stock brokers and CEOs. Not the 85% or so of American’s who Barack Obama’s tax plan would actually be better than McCains. No really. Hit the link. People who make less than $112,000 a year will pay LESS in taxes under Barack Obama’s plan than those under John McCain’s plan. According to Roberton Williams, principal research associate for the Tax Policy Center, Obama’s plan is very similar to McCains, except Obama would roll back the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest 3% of Americans. Doesn’t sound too bad when you hear it like that. So I don’t mind rich white old people being republicans, but when their electorate base has such a low earning average, why in God’s name do they vote republican? Oops, sorry. I suppose, “in God’s name” is precisely why.
