Bush Takes Opportunity To Rape Natural Beauty

Published by silyman1 at 10:04 am under Oil, Politics Edit This

(From NY Times)  Yesterday, President Bush urged Congress to end the federal ban on offshore oil drilling.  He also wants to start drilling inside the Arctic National Wildlife Refugue (ANWR), all in the name of lowering gas prices and strengthening national security.  While there is some merit to his proposal, drilling more oil ourselves will help us in buying less foreign oil, it would hardly be an overnight success.  Setting up new drilling stations takes years, some analysts predict up to a decade before the first barrel is shipped.  Plus when you think about it, Oil companies DON’T want to ship their oil when it’s cheep now, do they?  They want to wait until it’s expensive and then ramp up production to take advantage.  My Spidey Sense is tingling here…  I know I’m betraying my nerdhood by mentioning Star Wars here, but I have always gotten the vibe that George Bush’s administration is not unlike Chancellor Palpatine, the dark lord of the Sith who rose to power and took over the Galactic Republic by using the tools of fear and impending doom.  Bush asking congress to start sucking our own oil reserves dry sounds like the end that they were searching for.  I’m sorry for the conspiracy theory junk, but Bush is an oil man.  His family is an oil family.  He stands to gain considerable amounts by oil prices skyrocketing… especially if the companies he’s invested in are allowed to expand their production. But who cares about Bush anymore right?  He’s a lame duck.  Let’s move on to the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain.  John McCain was long thought of as someone who is in favor of environmental protection, and was for many year’s the hippy’s friend.  Now, it seems, he’s flip-flopped his position and has lock-step mirrored President Bush’s call to open drilling in environmentally unsafe locations.  In the process, he’s served to alienate many environmentally conscientious Republicans out there, who are able to see through his thinly veiled ruse.
