Wholesale Inflation Raises 7 Times Faster In May
(From CNN Money) Wholesale prices went up just .2% in April. In May, that inflation went to 1.4%, the biggest increase since November. But that’s not all of it. Energy prices are up 4.9%, Diesel up 11.2%, Gasoline up 9.3%, heating oil up by 8%. There’s always a ripple effect when oil prices go up. First, of course, gasoline and diesel prices increase. This is followed by things that are directly affected by these increases, like airline pricing. We then start seeing a boost in prices for basically everything, since everything requires oil to get from one place to another… unless your Amish. I think the greatest take-away from this is that our country is going to hell in a handbasket. What are we going to do about it? Many politically minded Republicans feel they need to keep up with their party and get John McCain in office. Many Democrats want Barack Obama there. Still, many others think that it doesn’t matter who’s in the White House, and that our economy will either fester or recover on its own. Who is right? Well to those who think it doesn’t matter who’s in the White House, I pose this question: Would we have waged a pointless war in Iraq, sinking upwards of a Trillion dollars into that money pit from out of our pockets and our children’s pockets, if Al Gore were president? Presidents do matter, they influence policy, they aim this country in a direction, and the direction George Bush has taken reminds me of myself when my parents gave me a credit card for the first time. I was 16, Mr. Bush… what’s your excuse? We must get this economy on the right track, but to do that we MUST stop throwing away money into a country that can make it’s own money.
